In today’s challenging reality, we are confronted with numerous adversities. Over the past years, the world has been drastically changing, urging us to heed a compelling call for transformation that will ignite the passion of many towards change.

With a bright smile, Bro. Michael Siao, a pioneer of Tzu Chi Youth Philippines and Deputy CEO of Tzu Chi Philippines, enthusiastically delivered his discussion “The Spiritual Fortress” during the recently held Tzu Chi Bohol Youth Camp. His talk was filled with riveting words, signifying the importance of camaraderie, unity, trust, and resilience, especially in times of sorrow and trials.

Bro. Michael used the candle as a metaphor: “Just as a candle is lit, we should kindle kindness and goodness in our hearts. Through collective support and empathy, we build a solid foundation that unites us, making struggles bearable.” The session featured activities fostering trust, support, and dedication among campers, including games that tested their mutual trust, determination, and solidarity.



Niña Ziza Lor, a youth participant from Sagbayan, Bohol captivated the crowd by exceptionally performing the hula-hoop, achieving a remarkable 500 spin. She said her team’s resilience and encouragement to her as their representative boosted her confidence enabling her to successfully attain their teams’ victory.


The campers found the core essence of what Brother Michael aimed to impart, instilling in them the crucial impact of what spiritual fortress can make a difference on their daily endeavors.
Bro. Michael said, “The essence of the spiritual fortress is to build the faith and confidence of people. Tzu Chi focuses on nurturing individuals into compassionate and humble beings, especially during these challenging times. With the world facing numerous calamities and disasters, we need to transform lives, transform societies, and transform people bringing each of their light to initiate a significant human change.”


The next camp day, field games followed for the youth that stressed on fundamental ideals, insights, and wisdom, promoting teamwork and collaboration. Campers discovered the relevance of communication, modesty, attentiveness, and the benefits of vegetarianism.






Rachelle Anne Dinoy, a youth camper shared her unforgettable experience with her groupmates upon accomplishing the challenges. With overflowing excitement, she said, “With unity and fellowship we were able to do the tasks well and created good memories to cherish for a long time.”


As the event drew to a close, participants reflected on the vital lessons and enriching bonds they had forged. The overwhelming sense of unity and renewed faith left everyone inspired to embody the spirit of the spiritual fortress in their daily lives.
