The Tzu Chi Bohol Youth Life Camp 2024 was filled with anticipation as a visiting speaker flew to Bohol all the way from Taiwan. Bro. Marshall Siao, a Tzu Chi volunteer raised in the Philippines has committed his life to work for Tzu Chi. Through the guidance of Tzu Chi Founder, Dharma Master Cheng Yen, the Director of Jing Si 6T Technology is remarkably known for his award-winning innovations of several Tzu Chi disaster relief furniture systems with materials used to make it, considers a lot the impact and solution to the environment. His appearance was eagerly awaited and promised to deeply encourage and inspire.

In his session, Bro. Marshall encouraged outstanding graduates and current Tzu Chi scholars to join Tzu Chi’s causes. He gave a detailed overview of the Foundation’s core values and mission, emphasizing environmental awareness and humanitarian work. The presentation delved into Jing Si 6R Technology, focusing on innovative disaster relief products that improve living conditions for disaster-affected individuals. Notably, the Jing Si Furniture System includes multi-purpose folding beds, pop-up cubicles, eco-blankets, stackable storage systems, tables and chairs. Bro. Marshall provided an exclusive look at these products, detailing their features. One standout example is the Pop-Up Cubicle Unit, made from 280 recycled bottles, offering privacy and dignity for disaster survivors while highlighting its environmental benefits. He then showcased success stories from global initiatives, demonstrating the significant environmental impact of this technology and the Foundation’s dedication to sustainability.

In an impassioned address, Bro. Marshall stated, “One seed of love can inspire boundless wisdom and transformation.” He emphasized the importance of innovation, compassion, and resilience to young minds, believing that solutions should address not only the immediate physical needs of individuals but also their emotional well-being. “By adopting the principles of Jing Si 6R Technology, we can make meaningful contributions to a more sustainable and peaceful world”, he added.

Transitioning to the teachings of Dharma Master Cheng Yen, Brother Ericson Go Giap, along with his dedicated team, led an insightful session on “Jing-Si Aphorism: Lessons, Teachings, and Methodology.” This session aimed to provide campers with deep insights into the Tzu Chi Jing Si Aphorisms, offering guidance on living a virtuous and compassionate life. These are sayings that capture the essence of Buddhist teachings and Tzu Chi principles, focusing on compassion, humility, gratitude, and the value of thoughtful reflection are from the speeches of Dharma Master Cheng Yen, compiled and written in short verses.

Through a meticulously crafted educational strategy, the team integrated experiential activities, storytelling, reflection, meditation, and practical applications. Each element was designed not only to teach but also to deeply embed the Jing Si aphorisms into the hearts and minds of the participants. At the session’s conclusion, Lovely Joy passionately expressed, “Every activity was like a stepping stone, helping me discover more about myself and my place in the world. From the exciting teamwork challenges that taught me about compassion, to the captivating storytelling sessions that showed me the strength in vulnerability and resilience, this camp has truly transformed my life.”
